| Hand Needles | |||
| Normally, needles are sized from smallest (low number) to largest (high number) diameter. Thus, a pack labled 3/9 contains a variety of needles ranging from a size 3 (small) to a size 9 (large). One also has to take into consideration the particular type or class of needle - a Quilting 5 is shorter than a Sharp 5 which is shorter than a Milliner 5 but they're all the same diameter. | name | picture | description | price |
| Dritz Needle Compact |

| John James Cotton Darners 1/5 |
![]() |

| John James Yarn Darners 14/18 |
![]() |
Like sewing with a telephone pole? Well, here ya go! Seriously, these are for manipulating in heavy knits like sweaters or winter socks.... or possibly light- to medium-weight fishing nets? |
$1.50/pk. |
| John James Embroidery 3/9 |
![]() |
Also called 'Crewel', these are medium length with a long, oval eye (slightly over-size to take embroidery threads) and a sharp point. | $1.50/pk. |
| John James Milliners 5/10 |
![]() |
Same as Sharps but longer & slightly more flexible; frequently used in hat-making. Also called Straws because of historical and continuing use on women's hats, many of which were made of straw in the past. Extra long with a round eye and a sharp point, the eye is little wider than the shaft, allowing for easy manipulation of bullion wraps, medium beads, & passing through fabric (or straw) leaving a hole that's smaller and closes easier on the thread. | $1.50/pk. |
| John James Quilting 5/10 |
![]() |
Also called Betweens, these are the same as Sharps but shorter, possessing the same sort of oval eye and sharp point. Their small size is very good for rendering short stitches quickly and accurately. Experienced sewers can sew faster with a shorter needle. | $1.50/pk. |
| John James Sharps 5/10 |
![]() |
The benchmark for needles, Sharps are the most commonly used - a general purpose needle with a medium length, a small, round eye and a sharp point. | $1.50/pk. |
| John James Tapestry 18/22 |
![]() |
The blunt tip of the Tapestry needle is excellent for cross-stitch or for tapestry on canvas or anywhere you want to slide _between_ the threads rather than pierce them. While medium length, they have an over-long, oval eye for carrying multiple threads or even yarns. Three sizes in a pack - 18, 20, 22. |
$1.50/pk. |
| John James Tapestry Petites 22 - 24 - 26 |
![]() |
Like regular Tapestries, these are blunt-tipped with an over-long eye but these are shorter and, oddly enough, are numbered "backwards" like the Twin-Points and Double-Eyes! The higher the number, the smaller the needle..... One size to a package so please specify. |
$1.50/pk. |
| John James Twin Pointed Quick Stitch Needles and Twin Pointed Stab Stitch Needles |
![]() |
This remarkable needle style possesses a point on either end and the thread eye in the middle. Using a hands-free frame, keep one hand above your work and one hand below at all times and stitch straight up and down through your fabric without turning your needle. Loop the thread over a finger if necessary to keep the tension right. Produces an more even stitch with less twist and tangle and less wrist/hand strain. The Quick Stitch needles are larger and accomodate almost any thread while the Stab Stitch is finer being intended for quilting. The Stabs would also work well for silk thread embroidery on silk gauze. Please specify (left to right): Quick Stitch - 22 (coarse), 24 (medium), or 26 (fine) or Stab Stitch - 10 (extra fine) |
$2.25/pk. |
| Clover Double-Eye Needles |
![]() |
Embroider with two different threads at the same time! For threads and divided flosses, use the finer needles; for ribbons, yarns, and undivided flosses, use the heavier needles. Both are available in sharp and blunt versions. Please specify (left to right): Sharp - 22 & 24 Sharp - 15, 17, & 20 Blunt - 22 & 24 Blunt - 15, 17, & 20 |

| Machine Needles | |||
| Different needles for different uses - Sharps for most natural fibers & weaves... Universals for knits... Leather for ... well, leather .. and fake leathers, too... Double needles for perfect double lines of stitch... Smaller numbers are for lighter weights, higher numbers for heavier and if it says "Jeans" - yep, that's for heavy-weights... Topstitch needles have a wider thread groove for heavier sewing threads to fit in - good choice when using anything heavier than a #40 thread. | name | picture | description | price |
